Story
Help me reach 8848m, the summit of Everest, and help me support one of the most disadvantaged places on the planet, but one whose people, as well as being remarkably tough and brave, have the biggest hearts. The Himalayan Trust UK organises projects throughout the remote mountainous regions of Asia to support children through school,to offer them the best career prospects possible; to increase health care provisions and to promote wellbeing by repairing monasteries damaged in the recent tragic earthquake.
I'm Kate, 25 years old, and this year I decided to stop dreaming and start achieving. I've been obsessed with Everest for sometime, yet it was the death of my cousin, who was only a year older than me, from an incurable form of skin cancer that made me decide to act. I set up my own website and have already organised two crazy sponsored events - the Lake District 3000ers challenge, and a mega cycle sportive. Later on this year I'll be tackling Ben Nevis, Snowdon & Scafell Pike, but using my bicycle to link them! and in 2016 I hope to become an Iron Woman. All of this will prepare me mentally for the Big E. Please step on board & enjoy the ride.
I've always had that restless streak in me; wanting more from life, and unable to be at peace until I've pushed my body to its limits. With spatial awareness and fine motor skills so poor I couldn't hold a pencil correctly or tie my own shoelaces, I first rode a bike aged six despite the fact nobody believed I could do it. Now, twenty years later, I regularly compete in triathlons and last year I took part in my first half ironman. I've been rock climbing since 2013; during my average week I go out at least once as well as cycling around 200 miles.
Help me climb Chomolungma, or Everest, goddess mother of the earth. Two years' worth of ultra endurance challenges with the grand finale being this holy grail of mountaineering await.
