While LGBTQIA2S+ youth make up 7% of the total non-adult population in the U.S., they represent 40% of all youth experiencing homelessness today. In fact, LGBTQIA2S+ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than the general population. The data for our LGBTQIA2S+ youth from communities of color show even greater challenges and disproportionate hardship. In response, New Avenues proudly offers programs and resources to address the unique barriers and challenges facing our LGBTQIA2S+ youth. This includes the Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC) as well as integrated, culturally-specific case management services. Regardless of the specific need, New Avenues is committed to providing safe, harassment-free spaces and relationships for these young people to be their best selves. The New Avenues Ambassador Board is celebrating Pride this year by raising critical resources and awareness for LGBTQIA2S+ youth. Together we can help create a better future for all.
