Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2016 I had emergency surgery for cauda equina syndrome which was compressing the nerves at the base of my spinal cord. Since this is a medical emergency as it can cause paralysis there was no time to plan or really process what was happening, highlighting how very quick things can change. I just kept apologising as someone else had their surgery cancelled that day so that I could go to theatre.
I experience long term problems due to some residual nerve damage and spondylolisthesis though am thankful this has not caused paralysis.
Prior to cauda equina swimming formed part of my pre-work routine and I would swim a minimum of four miles a week.
I have recently started swimming again and whilst nothing like my previous distance it seems an apt time to work on this by swimming 22 miles to raise money for Aspire a charity supporting people with spinal cord injury.
It’s going to be sore at times I know, though so worth it to raise money in support of others.
Thanks so much for reading this and any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated.
I will keep you all updated.
