Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
3 years ago (2011) I had a mountain bike accident in the Peak District. I was rescued by the air ambulance team and somehow walked out of hospital 8 hours later. I have never been so frightened in my life as I couldnt feel my legs. The team were nothing but fantastic.
Swimming the Channel is something I have taken a particular interest in since 2009 when I worked at a summer Camp in the USA (Ramapo country day camp). I worked with some fantastic people and made friends from all over the world. From there I agreed with my friend Caryn I would swim from Robben Island to Cape town in 2010. This was 5 miles. I did it. It was cold.
I then decided with my friend, Lauren, I would swim the channel. Its always been on my mind since then. Having had a bumpy 3 years with the high being the birth of my son. The low having back surgery and diagnosed with depression, all of which I have now overcome and I am well and truly on the other side. I wanted to do something to show that with a bit of grit and determination anything is possible, no matter what you have to contend with day to day.
I had originally planned to do this 'little' swim in 2015 and I've been training since February for swimming Lake Windemere on the 7th September which is 10 miles. however, due to an internal job change I dont feel I can put the hours in I need to, to train for what can only be described as the "Everest of all swims". I have been fortunate enough to secure a late tide at the beginning of October, so i'm going for it!
I would be so grateful for any donations you can make to the Air ambulance, which I feel are a very worthy cause. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me through this epic journey, which will soon be coming to the grand finale!
On the day of my swim you will be able to follow me via the Channel swimming association website. I am swimming with Master piece and Fred Mardle is my pilot.
