Story

Okay, so here's the skeet, to use a Manx word, this year I am 60 and I want to do something that matters - not just drink wine, sing songs and generally have a hooley of a time etc.  So I thought that I would undertake another pilgrimage, this time from Lisbon to Santiago called the Camino Portuguese.  Check it out on this website  http://caminoways.com/ways/portuguese-way-camino-portugues.  As you can see it is 386 miles long and we will walk north from Lisbon, through Portugal and into Gallicia, Spain to Santiago di Compostella.

I say we, because my gorgeous and lovely walking buddy Sue Moore is coming with me. I say another because we have done a pilgrimage before, the Camino Frances 500 miles from St Jean Pied du Port to Santiago and you would think that that one was enough but it seems as though it wasn't.  Like last time we are fundraising - I am raising money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust; I work as a psychotherapist, with young people  who have CF, as part of a multidisciplinary team on the Isle of Man.  Sue for prostate cancer charity.  We fund all our travel and expenses so everything you give goes to the charity.

We start on April 13th and walk and walk and walk until 8th May.  The first five days are 20 miles each day on their own.  We have been doing some serious training.  The tricky thing is to sort out our rucksacks, goodness knows how we managed to carry 13 kg last time, eight years ago, obviously younger.  I've done some very ruthless pruning and have it down to a smidge over 9 kg.  I would like to lose some more, but worry about chucking out knickers and other essentials.

I have been thinking about walking songs - 'the long and winding road', 'lost and alone on some forgotten highway', 'It's a long and a dusty road', etc etc.  I think I'll just have lots of bouncy tunes for those i-Pod moments when the going gets tough - oops another song.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
