Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On average, every week in the UK, 2 families will learn that their child has neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare type of cancer that mostly affects babies and young children. In May 2011 we became one of those families.
Whilst out shopping in Chester I got the phone call that would change our lives forever. "Mrs Johnston we are very concerned about the scan we have just undertaken on your daughter Elin, could you please come back to the hospital immediately".
I don't know how I drove the 30 minute journey home, it was just a blur, and so it continued. Endless trips to Alder Hey Hospital for tests, operations, chemotherapy and infections. My beautiful 8 month old baby ravaged by a truly horrendous disease, too little and innocent to understand or comprehend. We understood! I read the stats "on average 2 children every week in the UK alone are diagnosed, 50% of these children are ultimately beaten by it". Thankfully my beautiful Elin is one of the lucky ones.
Now 6 years on we are finally emerging from the fog, looking to the future with our little girl and our new addition Henry. I started running when Elin was ill as a way to escape and after recovering from a nasty leg break I thought it’s now or never!
I couldn't think of a more inspiring and worthwhile charity to support. Every mile in training, every blister, every aching limb will be minuscule in comparison to what my wonderful daughter has achieved. I will finish it for her, and raise lots of money in the process. Some people never meet their hero's, I gave birth to mine!
Please help us give families hope and find a cure for neuroblastoma through funding leading research projects to deliver new, effective and kinder treatments for these children.
