<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">Six weeks into my first term at Manchester University, I started to feel unwell and was suffering an excruciating pain in my left arm. This prompted my friends to take me to A&amp;E where I was sent home with a pot of painkillers. I returned to my university halls and went to bed.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">A friend discovered me the next morning, delirious and covered in the meningococcal rash. Once in hospital I developed septicemia and was put into a coma, spending four weeks in intensive care and a total of three months in hospital.
