We use surfing and peer mentoring to transform the lives of young people

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I really appreciate it.

This year at Perfect Stays we are proudly supporting The Wave Project 🌊  as a Charity and Well-being Ambassador for Perfect Stays I have decided to challenge myself to run the AJ Bell Great Bristol 10k run on the 14th May. Although I have completed similar runs in the past, it has not been for some time and this will certainly be a challenge for me having only started my training two weeks ago! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I know running for this amazing charity will spur me on through every mile 🏃🏻‍♀️

About The Wave Project - https://www.waveproject.co.uk/

1 in 6 children in the UK struggle with their social, emotional or mental health. The Wave Project are on a mission to change this.

Their surf therapy programmes offer young people aged 8 to 21 the opportunity to participate in a specialised surf therapy session once a week for six weeks. Each young person is paired with a volunteer surf mentor and receives one-to-one support appropriate to their needs for the duration of the course.

They support children and young people who experience a range of physical and mental health issues, social deprivation or social isolation. Young people attending their courses are supported through surfing to build their confidence and self-esteem, develop resilience, and make friends.

Folllowing their surf therapy programmes, The Wave Project has a follow up Surf Club. Surf Club provides young people with continued access to a regular surf session at their local break and a range of other activities, as well as the opportunity to socialise and maintain friendships. Social events also take place throughout the year for participants and their families.

From their very beginnings, The Wave Project has strived to be totally inclusive and make surfing as accessible as possible to all young people, whatever their level of ability.

Over the last five years, they have seen a growing demand for surfing from people with a wide range of physical disabilities. To meet this need, they have acquired the necessary skills, training and specialist equipment to deliver safe and enjoyable surf sessions from our Adaptive Surfing Hub in Croyde, North Devon.
