Story
We are supporting Nerve Tumours UK because their mission means a great deal to us. They provide crucial support to people living with Neurofibromatosis- the conditon that causes nerve tumours. It is a dominant genetic condition, which means that it can be passed on in families from one generation to the next through genetic inheritance. Similarly, about half of nerve tumours cases recorded have no previous family history of the condition. In other words, it can occur totally “out of the blue”.Please help me bolster their support.
My brother and best friend, George, was diagnosed as a child with NF. Growing up we had a completely normal childhood and had many plans for the future. Even at the end he had plans for my future and told me not to worry too much and to live life to the full. I promised I would and so im trying things I have never done before in his honour! He and I used to sing The Proclaimers "500 miles" but 500 miles seemed a bit excessive for our first ever long distance walk, so we are settling with 104 miles. My cousins (who will be walking with me) have been my rock through finding out that G was ill and him being taken into hospital, then through him passing away and his funeral. We would like to give back to the charity that supported George through his illness and provided people that he could turn to. We also wanted to be able to support other families in hopes that they dont have to go through this in the future.
