Story
In total I have spent a year of my life having treatment at the National for a rare headache disorder including a month spent on Victor Horsley Ward in January.
I haven't always been the easiest of patients but the staff have always been there looking after me and some have gone above and beyond to help me.
Unfortunately my treatment, including surgery, has been put on hold. However, one of my amazing nurse specialists has been there on the end of a phone trying to make things more comfortable for me as I wait.
I am one of those who is being shielded so no chance of seeing a hairdresser for the next 3 months at least. As my hair is getting longer, it is harder to manage and as bizarre as it sounds is also making my headache disorder worse, so I have decided to shave it off.
I am raising funds by doing this as I want to do everything that I can to support the incredible team at The National Hospital - from the doctors, nurses and pharmacists to the porters, domestics and support staff. They are working under immense pressure, putting themselves on the frontline to care for patients, including an increasing number with COVID-19.
The National Brain Appeal has set up this emergency fund so that we can provide immediate and practical assistance where it is needed and to support the staff with any hardships as a result of this crisis and in the immediate aftermath.
The charity is also receiving requests from staff at The National Hospital to support patients who are in need perhaps because they are unable to get clothing or personal effects from home. Where we can, we will consider all such requests.
It would be great if you could make a donation, however small, to show the team how much their efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
