Story
After over 30 years of running I finally attempted my first marathon in 2018 at Rutland Water. It was hilly, windswept and lonely - easily one of the toughest challenges of my life. And way too slow to cross off my bucket list. So I am going for it again - this time with some key differences - less hills, more people and most importantly a brilliant cause to spur me on.
In July 2019 the amazing Sue Ryder gave me a place in their 2020 London Marathon 'Team Incredible'. I trained all the way up 20 miles before the race was cancelled. Gutting - but I learned loads on the way. After another false start in October 2020 it looks like 3rd October 2021 will finally be the day.
Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Here in Peterborough they care for people with life-limiting conditions at their Thorpe Hall hospice and in their own homes.
There are lots of stats to highlight the fantastic work that Sue Ryder does - but for me there is one resounding set of numbers that will keep me focused as I pound the streets: It costs £3.4 million each year to run Thorpe Hall. Only £1 million of that is provided by the Government. The remaining £2.4 million comes from fundraising.
It's a massive task so please help me do my little bit to help Sue Ryder keep this astounding service going.
Thank you!
