Fundraising for Anthony Nolan
Story
After a visit to the doctor in March due to feeling run down, Mike was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and needs an urgent stem cell transplant in June.
Mike's three brothers have been tested but tragically, none are a match so Mike and his family have turned to the Anthony Nolan charity to find a donor. Thankfully, they have just been given the news there is a match for Mike on the register. This is fantastic news after two difficult months, but Mike and his loved ones still have a long journey ahead.
Kate, Mike's fiancé, launched a social media campaign, Shake4mike, to encourage more registrations and raise awareness of the Anthony Nolan Charity and their life-saving work. The campaign has been a huge success and so far has seen a 650% increase in sign ups to the Anthony Nolan register. The charity need as many people registered as possible but also, lots of money in order for them to carry on saving people's lives.
In a nutshell, here are some of the amazing things the Anthony Nolan charity does - match incredible individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants; educate young people about the lifesaving difference they can make by joining their register; conduct ground-breaking research to improve the success rates of transplants and improve the lives of all people with blood cancer and offer support, advice and information for people with blood cancer and their families.
It costs £100 for Anthony Nolan to recruit and look after a potential donor, and the more we raise the more we can do to support this lifesaving work. Thank you for your generosity.
