Story
November is Diabetes Awareness Month- trust me... I am very aware of it.
I am reminded of a comment a camper made to me during my first summer at CBM
during the diabetes line up of staff in the front of the dining hall-
"Why are we clapping about diabetes? I hate it... it's not something to cheer!"
And when you are 8 years old, that statement makes sense.
And when you are like me and have had your life changed, truly changed, by the strong, successful, brave, empowered, beautiful people living with diabetes and their families that you know and, the pangs of guilt are incredible and I, too, can't cheer or clap.
And after ELEVEN years of being a member of that family, I don't make noise for this disease with cheers or claps but rather reflecting on the fortitude of the people I know living with, thriving with, and impacted by diabetes... THEY are the ones I give a standing ovation.
I adore all my Camp Kudzu Family- thank you for making me a much better person.
I want a cure and I want this day not to have happen... I want it now!
I have taken the challenge to build awareness of T1D and raise funds to support Camp Kudzu in preparation for our celebratory DIVE into the lake! I am doing this to support Camp Kudzus vision to grow a supportive community where life with T1D is without limitations - everywhere Kudzu grows!
I will have to jump into Lake Allatoona if, IF, I end up being one of the top
fundraisers on the Camp Kudzu Staff Team. PLEASE resist the urge to
donate! Thank you! Can I count on you to keep OUT OF THE WATER?
