Story
I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd April 2023 to raise money for Abigail's Footsteps, who are a national charity focused on stillbirth and neonatal bereavement support.
I have chosen Abigail's Footsteps as they provided invaluable support to my friend and her partner following the birth of baby Blossom who was born sleeping at 40 weeks in 2021 and I was able to hear about the invaluable support that they received.
If it wasn't for the cold cots that Abigail's Footsteps provide to hospitals, then my friend and her family would not have been able to spend precious days with Blossom making memories as a family after her birth and taking their time to say goodbye. Without the cold cots families have just a matter of hours to say goodbye to their precious sleeping babies.
Abigail's Footsteps offer grief counselling to help parents, like my friend and her partner start to process their loss. A bereavement garden is maintained by the charity and designed to be a calm place where parents and their families can come to reflect and remember their sleeping babies.
Abigail's Footsteps provide training to midwives and care staff who care for bereaved parents, they support hospitals to develop bereavement suites so that families have time with their babies with privacy and away from the maternity wards. The charity donates cameras to the hospitals so that they can take precious pictures for the parents and can give them the memory cards to keep those precious memories.
Losing your baby is one of the most devastating experiences that you could ever go through, but with the help and support from Abigail's Footsteps the grieving process can become more manageable for parents and their families.
If you can sponsor me and donate to Abigail's Footsteps in any way then I would be incredibly grateful.
"Footsteps no matter how small always leave a big impression on your heart".
