Story

My name is Kat Hampson.

I recently lost my dad to the vicious monster that is cancer.  He was one of the fittest 60 year old's that you were likely to meet, & he inspired many people throughout his life in so many different ways.

The way he handled his condition was truly awe-inspiring, & all he wanted to do was enjoy the little time he had left in the company of his family & friends, & to be outdoors while he still could.

It may have broken his body, but it strengthened his spirit & his faith & gave us all something that can never be broken by this vicious disease.

As a teenager I was the typical sort; I didn't make his life easy!  But however difficult I was, he always made me feel like nothing short of a princess.  I learned many lessons from him about life, including taking care of yourself & others, appreciating nature in all weather & all places, & not holding on to the material things of this world.

That's why I'm doing this.  Anyone who doesn't know me by name seems to know me as 'her with the long blonde hair', & after seeing what this awful thing & the treatments involved can do, I thought about how hard it must be for a little girl to lose her hair.

I'd like to try & make a li'l lady feel like a princess again by giving my locks away, & then donating the money raised to the wonderful LOROS hospice that looked after my dad in his last 2 weeks of life.  He himself gave me the 'thumbs up' :)

The people there were supportive, genuinely caring, honest & highly professional.  They did everything they could to make dad as comfortable as possible.  He was treated like a king, & by the end of it I think he was addicted to ice-lollies as they were pretty much on tap!  We were all treated like family, the food was amazing, & there was even complimentary therapy for patients & their families.

They covered all the bases, & mum said 'they know what you want before you've even thought of it yourself'.

So I'd like to ask you all very kindly to support me in lopping my locks off in memory of my dear old dad.  He said to us, 'This place must keep going', & I'd like to do my very best to honour his last wishes.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My warmest regards, Kat Hampson xxx
