Story

Those of you who know me, know I’m not a natural runner. In fact my exercise regime is inconsistent at best. Running around after two young boys normally keeps me busy enough.  This year though I am setting myself the ultimate challenge - to run the London Marathon.  I’m running for the Royal Air Force Association who have supported the RAF community for over 90 years.

I’ve been in the RAF for 19 years now. My husband was in the RAF, my mum and dad were both in the RAF. My closest friends are in the RAF. The RAF community has always been a very important part of my life.

Being in the RAF is unique and challenging. It takes its toll on individuals and their families. I have seen this first hand in my friends and through my work. Despite operations in Afghanistan coming to end, the UK military is actually deploying more and more. Amongst many things that the Royal Air Force Association does, is to help families stay connected whilst they are separated. Wi-Fi services help people stay in touch, Storybook Wings allows deployed parents to record bedtime stories for their children to listen to whilst away. They provide much needed nursery facilities and childcare training. They support the injured and veterans with life changing advice, welfare and housing. Honestly the list of incredible things they do goes on and on.

The recent pandemic has increased the demand for the Royal Air Force Association’s help exponentially but as with many charities it has dramatically reduced its income. Your help and support will help this amazing charity continue its amazing work supporting the RAF community and their families.

Thank you so much.
