Story

On Sunday 3rd October 2021, we will be running the London Marathon with 30 other Luton Lions and thousands of other runners through the streets of the capital city.

We are fundraising for Children with Cancer UK with a collective team target to raise £75,000.

During the pandemic, there have been many businesses and sectors that have suffered, this includes the charity sector which relies on donations.

Khudael's Story

Khudael started his fitness journey in May 2018. Weighing more than 25 stone, he started to go to the gym and began to see results on the scales as well as feeling much better. He started running in September 2018 and seven months later, weighing 16 stone, he ran the London Marathon, a feat thought impossible just months before.

Since then, he has been complacent in his training and during the pandemic, he piled on the weight again but is working hard and is determined to be ready for the race in October.

Shamim's Story

Shamim was running for a few years and completed the odd half marathon. In June 2018, he suffered a stroke abroad and when he returned to the UK, it took a while before Shamim could confidently return to running.

With his perseverance, Shamim was part of the Luton Lions contingent that ran the 2019 London Marathon, finishing in the fastest time out of the pride in 3 hours and 43 minutes.

Jamal's Story

Jamal was going to run the London Marathon in 2019 with the Luton Lions. Always into fitness and exercise, Jamal ran sporadically for a few years and ran a half marathon and started to take up running again regularly. During training for the marathon, there was heartbreak for Jamal who suffered an injury which shattered his dream of running the famous 26.2 mile race.

Recovery was long, but Jamal was focused. He returned hungrier and stronger, regularly breaking personal bests as he strived to become a better, intelligent runner. In October 2020, Jamal ran the Virtual London Marathon on a day where weather conditions were very unfavourable. Jamal is hungry as ever and this year, he wants to finally be able to run on the famous London route.

Please donate what you can and support us on our journey to London!

Thank you.

Children with Cancer UK invest in childhood cancer research that would otherwise go unfunded. Only around 2% of cancer research funding in the UK* is spent on research that is fully dedicated to childhood and young adult cancer.
