We fund research into cleft lip and palate to treat and prevent cleft deformities

Story

We are about to embark on a crazy adventure. Our first ever half marathon. 13 miles is a long way by anyone's standards, but running the whole way on a Sunday makes it even harder.

We've chosen to run for CLEFT because they transform the lives of children and their families on an amazingly small budget. They work with some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged families across the developing world, helping children and adults smile for the first time, through dramatic, life-changing surgery.   Without the surgery, these children face a lifetime of pain, humiliation and isolation. They are unable to work and can't eat or speak properly. With your support, we can literally transform the lives of these children.

CLEFT funds research into the unanswered questions regarding cleft lips and palates: Why do they occur? How can they best be treated? Could they ever be prevented? They aim to push the boundaries of conventional treatment by funding research into improving operating techniques and by looking at the underlying reasons for cleft deformities.

I've worked at GOSH for 12 years and in the cleft department for 11. I am directly involved in the charity as this is a cause which is very important to me.

Every pound you donate really can make a difference to a child's life. Please dig deep and donate today.
