Story

UPDATE 14-07-09

Mission accomplished in the time scale and a total of 1074 miles completed from Orkney Isles to John O Groats and to Lands End, two punctures, gears went at Loch Ness and the peddle arm came off twice. Excellent trip, experience, and I would like to convey my appreciation and gratitude to Family and Friends for their support with this challenge. Would I do it again??? Yes, Cycling around Ireland looks appealing….

Greetings and many thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

My sister thinks I am having an (early) mid life crisis with the challenge of Orkeny Isles to John O'Groats and on to Land's End on a cycle.  It is a challenge that has been on my mind for a while and so through wind, rain, ice and sun for many months I have been out ‘on my bike’.

I feel as ready as I will ever be and so in early July this year I will be flying (is 3 hours flying going  to be the best bit?) with my cycle and kit heading for Orkeny Isles  and then will cycle to John O Groats, VIA Ferry with a mission to cycle to Lands end within fourteen days – weather and body parts permitting!!

With this in mind, I have decided to raise money for The Precious Lives Appeal.  Therefore, the primary aim is to raise money for a much needed children’s hospice in mid Cornwall at Porthpean on the outskirts of St Austell where planning permission has been granted for “Little Harbour” the new children’s hospice.

The target is to raise £5 million and the Precious Lives Appeal has now reached £1.85 million since its launch in September 2007.  I feel any more I can add to that will be worthwhile to the cause and hopefully will help me realise a goal.

My family -  Fiona my wife; Jacob and Elliot my sons, have gotten used to my going out in all winds and weathers to ‘train’ and are just resigned to the state I return in and put it down to ‘dad, being dad’!

This challenging event has been supported by  CORNWALLCOLLEGE management and Colleagues and I would like to convey my appreciation and thanks.

Please help me by giving what you can for children whose short lives are very precious and who deserve our commitment – whether we do it by giving or doing - and spread the word for this very worthy cause.

This site is dedicated to a friend/colleague Neil Hall (wicked sense of humour) who sadly departed this earth on the 17th May 2009  while doing what he best enjoyed (fishing) with his son. Live life and make the most of it. Take care friend.

Many thanks for your support.

Karl
