Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've decided to join 6 other old men from Burwell and take on the tough East to West cycle route, through the Lake District, The Pennines and Tyne & Wear, to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, who....
'know how damaging it is to take a young person away from their normal life – their friends, their environment, and put them in a cancer ward with small children or older people.
..know that young people have a much better chance of survival if they are treated by teenage cancers experts, in an environment tailored to their needs. So we’re working every day to make that happen.
.....don’t believe that teenagers should have to stop being teenagers, just because they have cancer. So we build specialist units in NHS hospitals which improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer.'
This cycle challenge will be taking place over the weekend of the 12th May, starting on the Friday and ending on the Sunday. We have given ourselves the tough task of completing this in 3 days - yes 3 days, which is approxiamtely 60 ish miles a day.
This is a tough challenge, but a challenge that is simple compared to the tough challenges faced by many people affected by cancer. I've decided I am going to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Sadly cancer is something that touches all our lives, in one way or another, be it personally, a close loved one, someone in the family or a friend or work colleague. Whoever that person may be, we all recognise the affect that having cancer can have on that person and those around them. Fantastically, cancer treatment and care is getting better all the time with more and more people coming through the tough battle to beat it.
There are many charities involved in cancer. The Teenage Cancer Trust is my chosen charity. I've chosen this charity to support through fund raising events and donations through the business as this charity specialises in teenage and young adult needs. Many teenagers are treated with young children or adults / pensioners. This charity targets what teenagers need - which is not to be treated as a child or an old age pensioner, but as a young person making that transition from child to adult. The Teenage Cancer Trust fund and support the development of specist units for young people in the NHS, with medical teams of teenage cancer specialists. Please take some time to view their web page for further information. It is inspiring and impressive.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please give just a little - maybe that money you were going to spend on a glass of wine, a chocolate bar, a bet or a bit a shopping that you know you don't really need and give to a charity that will be very grateful for every penny it receives. I know we all are being careful with our outgoings, but a few coppers would be appreciated.
With thanks from me and all those at the Teenage Cancer Trust.
