The Marathon des Sables is a 150 mile 7 day event in Morocco running/walking across part of the Sahara Desert. You have to be self sufficient in food and equipment and carry it all during the 7 days, the only exception being tents and water. The route is across sand, rocks and mountains and all in 40 degree plus heat followed by freezing nights. Blistered feet and sand in every part of your body is a given. All this on a limit of 9 litres of water a day so washing will be down on the list of priorities.
