As you may be aware, there were a number of hit and run incidents in Cardiff on Friday 19th October 2012 and a number of people injured.

Unfortunately, a friend of many and also a mother of 3, Karina Menzies,lost her life, saving her children.

Karina was 31 years old and was the best of mothers to her children. She was the mother of 3 beautiful girls, one of which is aged 11, who suffers from muscular dystrophy and was on holiday completely unaware of her mothers death at the time of the incident.

Her other daughters ages 3 and 7 were both hospitalised, one conscious suffering from a head injury and multiple cuts and grazes and the other suffering from a broken pelvis and broken legs, along with severe cuts and bruising.

Karina's mother was murdered 4 years ago behind Blockbusters in Ely, Cardiff, while her father passed away from a respiratory disorder a couple of years ago and the family have had very difficult lives, on top of the fact that they have also been brought up in a deprived area of Cardiff. 

She was the kingpin of her family, a great member of the Ely community and a great friend and it has left our community broken. She worked tirelessly for a number of local charities, community centres and was an honest hard working woman who would go out of her way to help others...WE NOW NEED TO DO THE SAME

KARINA WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS A COMMUNITY HERO FOR SACRIFICING HER LIFE TO SAVE HER CHILDREN
