Story
I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer almost three years ago. It's a scary thing to happen to anybody. A hundred questions fill your head at once, and then, at some point, it hits you that they've told you your cancer is incurable. When you hit that wall you need support from people who understand exactly what you're experiencing. That's where the Cove at the Royal Cornwall Hospital came in for me. It has been a haven of support. From counselling to dietary advice, from beauty treatments to somewhere to just have a coffee and breathe, The Cove is there for anyone who is being treated for their cancer at the RCH. Everyone who works or volunteers there are friendly and caring. Compassion at the Cove is limitless, and that is why I want to contribute funds so that they can continue their amazing work long into the future. To that end I am going to try to lose 16 pounds in 10 weeks. That might not sound like the greatest of challenges, but as well as cancer I have MS so exercise is tricky! Wish me luck 🤞😊
The Cove Amenity Fund
Money donated to The Cove Amenity fund is for the benefit of patients, volunteers and staff who visit and work in The Cove. We can purchase additional items to make patient and visitors more comfortable,- Cushions because patients wanted some additional support and comfort whilst in the waiting area and during appointments.- A highchair because parents of young children whose mums or dads are having treatment bring the children in to the Centre to be away from the business of a clinical setting.- Treadmill and exercise equipment for the new Physiotherapy Service to help keep patients active and build their strength and fitness both during and after treatment.- Electric fans to ensure the comfort of patients during hot weather or for those who may be experiencing hot flushes due to hormonal treatments. In addition, it enables staff and volunteers to attend specialist courses in order to keep up to date with current practice and extend their existing skills.
