Story
One More City (OMC) is an annual cycling campaign that moves from city to city, starting from where the previous year’s ride has finished. OMC raises funds for breast cancer research at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) London. The charity specifically funds research into new treatment options for the 30% of breast cancer patients who develop secondary cancer.
I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2019 and was fortunate enough to have early surgery and treatment. Not everyone is as fortunate. Christine O'Connell set up One More City, which to date, has raised more than £250,000 to fund breast cancer research at ICR London. Christine's passion is cycling; she has Stage 4 breast cancer.
In Christine's words "My hope is that one day we will be able to say cancer is a chronic disease that you can live with and live well with. One More City aims to help discover smarter treatments to help people live longer and better"
Last year we cycled a 650km route from Strasbourg to Munich. I’m excited to be carrying on this fund raising journey; OMC 2023: Munich to Venice, 600km over 4 days, with 9000m of climbing through the Dolomites
The ethos of One More City is that the journey is never over; riders are always progressing towards the next city, there are always more kilometres, more climbs to conquer and more challenges to face. This is akin to the reality of anyone living with cancer, especially secondary cancer, for whom the challenge is never over; there are always more treatments, more scans, more side effects to face.
Note: the cycle trip is entirely self funded , all sponsorship directly to ICR
