Story
The famous cliff-hanger words at the end of The Italian Job film, 'Hang on a minute lads....I've got a great idea' inspired a group of mini-mad friends to devise a fun-filled event with the challenge of Raising Money for Children in a fun way.
Started in 1989 this event has raised an amazing total of £2.7 million to date. 2019 sees the 30th anniversary of the rally, 60 years of the first mini rolling off the production line and 50 years of the film that inspired the rally, so this year is a very special one indeed.
Teams 51 & 61 ‘Bullion Busters’ are myself, my husband Terry and my sister Jan and husband Graham Kay. Both Terry and Graham are avid car enthusiast and Jan and I are tagging a long for the ride, (or is it the vineyard visit).
The nominated Charity for this multi anniversary year is Buttle UK (regd Charity No.313007). The charity was established in 1953 by the Reverend Frank Buttle whose aim was to raise £1m to take children out of poverty in London's East End. Since then, it has expanded to cover the whole of the UK, giving relief through ‘Chances for Children’ grants. Their aim is to support those children with maintenance, education and advancement grants and our aim is to raise, with your help, £1,500 for this wonderful charity. It’s worth noting that Buttle UK guarantees that 100% of any donation goes directly towards helping some of the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK today. It is also important to note all costs (ie fuel, ferry, accommodation etc) will be paid by us, so all monies donated will go to the Charity (which can be increased by 25% by nominating Gift Aid). Full details can be found at www.buttleuk.
The round trip is approximately 3000 miles and will take 20 days in total, driving through France and Germany to reach Imola in Italy where the rally officially starts. Along the way we will experience off the beaten track adventures, a visit to the famous Ferrari Race track, a vineyard, a castle as well as taking on the challenge of driving in Rome & Monza before the big finish in Turin where we will also get to drive around the rooftop test track of the iconic Fiat building, (as in the film but we will not attempting to jump off the end)followed by a farewell parade with all 85 vehicles and a police escort through the city! The photo opportunities with our car and any sponsors are endless!
Thanks for visiting this page and we would be grateful for any donations for this worthwhile cause.
Donating through JustGiving is simple and secure with all the money going direct to the Charity.
