We sponsor kids from the Nairobi slums to support them through their education

Story

Thanks for visiting my homepage.

In May 2005, Steve Adams the founder of Teach Africa sat in a classroom with around 80 13 year old girls in a school in the heart of one ofNairobi’s slums Mukuru Kwa Njenga. By coincidence the girls were the same age as his daughter Holly.

During a session run by the Barclays Bank Health and Welfare Officer, Joseph Wafula, he announced in matter of fact way, that statistically 50% would not see their 25th birthday. They barely batted an eyelid, it rocked Steve.

The reason is due to the high incidence of rape in the slums fuelled by rough drugs and alcohol and resulting in the contracting of AIDS through forced unprotected sex.

Between 12th and 18th September, 2009 I will be taking part in a six day, six stage foot race which starts in , finishes in and covers 156 miles. The race starts at Robert the Bruce’s cave then south to the foot of the Cumbria Mountains, two stages in the mountains before I take on the Dales for two stages and finally to Wales for the final stage and an epic finish at Ruthin Castle – My biggest challenge ever!

Please help me support the challenge facing the children of the Nairobi Slums buy sponsoring my challenge in the Trans Britain.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Teach Africa gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Teach Africa provides secondary education for kids living in the worst slums of Nairobi. Half of the 13 year old's that leave primary education and go back into the slum will not see their 25th birthday - we take them out of harms way and invest in their secondary education - creating role models.
