Story
During the lockdown I have discovered the pleasure of a daily walk - a pleasure greatly enjoyed by my dad.
Long distance cycling was an important part of my dad's, life, not only in competitions, but also as a personal challenge. When he gave up cycling, running took its place - marathons and ultra races - and then in later years this was replaced by walking. Popping out for a short walk would take at least an hour!
Cycling, running and walking are not activities that I've devoted my energies to. However, for some years I've been drawn to the idea of completing a long distance walk. This was an idea I'd dismissed as being impractical and unrealistic - my only real walking being done around towns and cities whilst on holidays! Then this Conqueror virtual challenge appeared on my Facebook feed and I figured that it would be a fitting way to challenge myself whilst raising money for the Alzheimer's Society in memory of my dad, whose life was taken by dementia.
My aim is to reach John O'Groats within a year. Would love to get there by the end of 2020, but that might be a bit too ambitious!
