Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to read about our mission to raise as much money as possible for such a great cause.
It all started with a little girl named Olivia
(facebook.com/Oliviafern04, Olivia’s Journey). Olivia is in the same class
as two of our children and Katy is a close friend of the family. In October
2014, aged only 16 months old, Olivia was diagnosed with a rare type of
cancerous brain tumour. Since then, Olivia, now four years old, has had 4
major brain surgeries. More recently, the daughter, of another dear friend
of Katy’s, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and so begins another
journey at the QMC.
The Big iMRI Appeal is the newest phase of the £4 million four-year Big
Appeal for Nottingham Children’s Hospital and it will provide new
state-of-the-art MRI scanning equipment for children with brain tumours
that can be used during life-saving operations. Brain surgery is complex
and intricate and the dedicated teams at Nottingham Children’s Hospital
will benefit from being able to use this new intraoperative MRI – called
an iMRI – during surgery to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Nottingham Children’s Hospital, based at QMC, is the leading regional
centre for children’s neurosurgery, with over 1,000 MRI scans on children
each year including those with life-threatening brain cancer.
Neither of us are known as ‘runners’ but, regardless, we have committed
ourselves to the Great Birmingham Run on Sunday 14 October 2018 and
are hoping to raise as much money and awareness as we can for this
amazing cause so we can help children, like Olivia, get the care they so
very much deserve.
We are looking forward to all the challenges we shall encounter
throughout our journey to and upon completion of the half-marathon!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope you can help us
spread the word!
