Story

For more than 100 years, the Y has been bringing families, neighbors and friends together in a safe and fun environment to learn, play and grow. With a local presence and national reach, their mission is to Advance Health, Empower Youth, and Strengthen Communities.

The doors to our community are open, actually wider than ever before as the needs of our combined communities are greater than ever!

Not everyone is aware of what incredible efforts the East Bay Y has been doing to address what our families, seniors and youth are facing day in and day out. During this pandemic and the battle for racial justice and for all disadvantaged people, the Oakland Y has joined with 4 other East Bay YMCAs to help provide key support for the following programs:

EARLY CHILDHOOD
Kept 16 early childhood centers open and running throughout the East Bay, providing critical services for the children and families of front-line workers.. In these centers the Y trained early childhood educators to provide the optimal learning environment to ensure children receive the support and care vital for their futures.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Created Digital Learning Hubs to support youth with distance learning. Youth Development staff assist the children with their school classes and provide enrichments including art classes, physical activities, nutritious food, homework assistance, and STEM projects. Currently revamping Youth and Government to meet the challenges of today.Meanwhile, the Y has established a partnership with both Oakland and Berkeley school districts to provide physical education credits for students using a virtual platform.

HEALTHY COMMUNITIES
The YMCA has partnered with the City of Oakland to distribute meals to Oakland families throughout the summer. Additionally, through the Y’s Virtual Fitness programming, we are reaching many who are struggling to keep active and maintain their physical and mental health. Our mission to meet the needs of the most vulnerable can still be achieved through the virtual classes, personalized coaching, and health and wellness resources and workshops.

GIVING BLOOD, SAVING LIVES
YMCA of the East Bay is playing a crucial role in addressing the blood shortage!  Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, patients continue to require blood products for childbirth, cancer treatments, essential medical procedures, and everyday emergencies.  They have teamed up with the Red Cross and Vitalant to host blood drives in Albany, Berkeley and Richmond.

Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the "Donate" button. The more people that know about the YMCA of the East Bay, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

With gratitude and best wishes for good health, happiness and prosperity,
Karen
