Story
Together with Charlotte, Ralph & Hugo I'm taking part in the October Dog Walking Challenge to support families facing dementia.
Dad died 10 years ago after a relatively short but steep decline in his mental function - I can vividly recall the last time he recognised me which was out of the blue but I knew he was ‘still in there’ but very lost, and it’s heart-achingly sad to see at that stage. As was seeing his bewilderment at what was happening to him in the early stages. The journey could have been very different and our hearts go out to families who need to support and care for their loved ones for much longer and face some very dark times and hard decisions.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.* Share your personal story let your sponsors know why you have chosen to support Dementia UK by taking part in the October Dog Walking Challenge
