Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Kai’s Just Giving page. On the 7th June 2011 our eldest son Kai (11) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He has shown courage and determination since that day and has not let Type 1 diabetes stop him in any way at all. Three days after being diagnosed and starting on insulin injections up to 9 times a day and blood glucose tests Kai was back on his bike cycling for Cycling Club Hackney. After 6 months Kai got his insulin pump and enjoys the best of new technology. However, until a cure for Type 1 Diabetes is found Kai relies on Insulin to keep him alive.
This year we are supporting JDRF’s Countmein campaign – some stats to show the attention and care type 1 requires every single day – since June 2011 Kai has tested his blood glucose by pricking his finger over 11640 times – when on injections he injected himself with insulin over 2160 times and when moved onto his insulin pump has had over 400 canuala changes.
To support JDRF Kai will complete over 2,000 cycle miles this year in a mixture of races, long distance rides – he is completing an indoor skydive on the 15 March 2014 and he will complete other sponsored events during the next 12 months please sponser Kai to support JDRF. JDRF is the leading organisaion in the UK for Type 1 diabetes - finding a cure and new technology – thank you!
