The greatest marathon in the world. For the last 85 years, Diabetes UK has been at the forefront of diabetes research. Weve discovered how to put type 2 diabetes into remission. And were working day in, day out to find a cure

Story

This fundraising site has been replaced with the following:

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/karen-storie5

as I made an error when setting it up & as this site doesn't allow gift aid!    But please note - this page still contributes to our overall fundraising target, it just doesn't allow you to add gift aid.

I am running both the Great North Run and the London Marathon this year in support of Diabetes UK.

With the help of my friend Susan (diabetic dietician and mum of Jenny who is Type 1) and Louise, my sister in law who always provides massive support in our fundraising - we have decided to raise funds for Diabetes UK.  We all have family and friends who are living with the condition, either Type 1 or Type 2.

Diabetes is the biggest health crisis facing this country, with almost 5million people in the UK living with the condition and an estimated 14million people with increased risk of Type 2 diabetes.

One in 15 of us is now living with diabetes.

Every penny raised will help better understand the causes of diabetes, find ways to help people manage their diabetes, and fund groundbreaking research into new treatments and a cure.

The on-going cost to the NHS is massive, and will only continue to increase unless this disease can be managed / prevented.  Currently the NHS spends £10bn (10% of its budget) on diabetes, of which 80% is due to complications.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
