Story
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to 1,640 call outs last year* alone, via their helicopter and emergency response vehicles, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.
26th August 2019 myself, husband Paul & our three Grandchildren ..Jayden, George & Codie were involved in an serious collision on the A1 whilst returning from a lovely bank holiday weekend away in Scotland, our lives changed in an instant, we were all seriously injured. Paul, Jayden & Codie were airlifted by two helicopters to the RVI in Newcastle, myself & George were there taken by ambulance. I really believe that if it were not for the care Paul received by the critical care team he would not have survived . The words thank you will never be enough to describe how thankful the whole family is to these amazing people & for being there for us that day. By doing this challenge, committing to walking 878 miles which is the distance between Lands End & John O Groats, in a year. With my lifelong friend Debra Rowntree we hope to raise much needed funds to keep these wonderful people in the air so they can be there for all of us ..when we need them most.
