Story
I was diagnosed with a very large brain tumour in November 2020 after suffering from migraines for most of my adult life, and went for a MRI. I underwent 15 hour brain tumour surgery in February 2021, which was was successful but there were many complications including having a huge heart attack at the end of the surgery (my heart stopped for 15 minutes) and then being in a coma for 2 weeks. I had a tracheotomy and was on ventilators. I was in ITU for 6 weeks, in hospital for nearly 3 months and had to learn to walk and slowly find my feet again. I have just had 6 weeks of radiotherapy to stabilise the half a tumour I have been left with. I am now registered as partially sighted, have memory and mobility issues. The Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity have helped me and my family massively since my surgery and now me and my husband Paul are determined to do as much as we can to support the YBTC and raise much needed funds so that they can continue their amazing work.
Brain Tumours can affect anyone, at any time. They are the single biggest killer of the under 40's in the UK. Every week, approximately 15 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in Yorkshire. Research has been underfunded for brain tumours, with current treatments nearly 40 years old. YBTC aim to fund world-class research here in Yorkshire to find treatments and a cure. While they do that, they will also provide support to people living with and affected by brain tumours, emotionally, practically and financially, for as long as they need the charity's support.
YBTC have been severely impacted by the Covid pandemic and ongoing cost of living crisis, and receive no Government funding. Any donations you can give will be massively appreciated by me and the YBTC!
