Story
As a child I grew up with my Dad being deaf following meningitis. He managed perfectly well without his hearing, had four children and worked all of his life. A few months before he died he was diagnosed with cataracts, the disability of his eyesight being affected was so significant that he said it was worse than all of the years he had experienced being deaf (he was 70 years old). My Dad was too unwell to undergo surgery for the cataracts, therefore the condition would only worsen. He knew he was dying, his wish was that some of the money donated at his funeral would be donated to guide dogs because he was so devastated at the effect his sight loss had on his quality of life. Obviously we honoured this. I have completed another challenge for guide dogs in May, the marathon is a huge challenge! Something we can do in memory of my amazing Dad ❤️
Dave will find this more natural than me! Our training will start almost immediately, as will the fundraising. Our target is set by Guide Dogs UK at £4,000 (£2,000 each) we will work as a team to reach at least this.
Every hour in the UK someone goes blind. It costs guide dogs uk around £50,000 to train one dog from birth until retirement. They also provide buddy dogs, they also make a huge difference to an individual’s life. Your support will be much appreciated, any donation will help to make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to read this, if you see us running, please feel free to shout any words of encouragement! 🐾🐾
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
