Story

Hi there,

Thanks for revisiting my page. You probably know by now that I made it to the top! Many thanks to everyone who has sponsored me. A fantastic sum of money has been raised for Cancer Research.

I have added some of the photos from the trek. Enjoy!!

Karen xx

ORIGINAL MESSAGE

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to trade in this year's turkey and alcohol indulgence for a trek to the top of Kilimanjaro. I'll be heading off 23rd December and will start treking on Christmas Day from approximately 2250m. I hope to make it to the summit at 5896m on day 8 via the Shira route. Day 9 will be one long descent and I shall arrive back home on 3rd January.

Whilst this is something I have wanted to do for some time, I will be taking the opportunity to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

I know that Cancer, in one way or another, will have effected everyone who reads this message. If you have not been personally affected, it is likely that you will have suffered the loss of a friend, colleague or family member to this illness.

Just this year we have lost valued friends and colleagues Keith Bryson from Veolia Tinsley and Kevin Willis from Veolia Sheffield. I was fortunate enough to have known both Keith and Kevin and I know how greatly they are missed by their colleagues, many whom had become close friends over the years.

In recent years, I personally have lost my nan (Vera Griffiths) and two close friends, Andrew Jones and Michelle Smith.

Christmas is a particularly difficult time of year for anybody who has lost someone close to them. I would therefore like to invite you to join me in thinking about the families of Keith, Kevin, Andrew, Michelle and everyone else we know who has been affected, and join me in supporting Cancer Research UK in their memory.

The trip is fully funded by myself. Any donations made via this JustGiving webpage will go directly to Cancer Research UK and Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation made by a UK taxpayer. It’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. It's also a very simple, fast, safe and secure method of making your donation.

I hope you can offer your support. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.

Kind Regards
Karen x
