Story
In June 2021 my son George, then aged 10, was diagnosed with an aggressive, malignant brain tumour. George’s treatment began with 2 major brain surgeries and cerebral shunt insertion. With help from physio and occupational therapy, he regained his manual dexterity and ability to walk. After 7 weeks in Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, he recovered enough to start chemotherapy.
Along side chemo and radiotherapy, there followed countless visits to hospital for blood and platelet transfusions for George. As his weight dropped, he was back as an in-patient to have a feeding tube inserted into his tummy. George was admitted to hospital many times with infections/fevers due to treatment induced immunodeficiency. Christmas, New Year and Birthdays were all celebrated in hospital, with his family joining in remotely from home.
Fast forward to October 2022 and George, now 12, has just received his final dose of chemotherapy. To mark this milestone together with his family, we are participating in the Lantern Walk for RMCH! Please help us in supporting the hospital charity.
