Story

Our lovely Dad/Grandad, and Mum's husband, sadly left this world on the 5th August after living with, and putting up a long and brave fight against, dementia and a form of blood cancer.  The Heart of Kent Hospice provided wonderful support to Dad, and the family, through co-ordinating care provided at home, facilitating 'making memories' for Mum and Dad, their counselling service supporting Mum to be able to look after and care for herself as well as caring for Dad 24/7, and being there at the end of the phone any time of the day/night to support any one of us and always with our aim of keeping Dad at home for as long as possible and giving him the most comfortable and peaceful end to his time on earth.  Dad spent his last 3 days at this wonderful hospice, and the care, love and attention provided was amazing.  Knowing that Dad was there in the best hands, was a great relief to us all, as we know it is for many families.  We can never repay the kindness and care they gave to us all, but we will do our best to forever support them and this Moonlit Memories Walk is one of the Heart of Kent Hospice's largest events. Karen, Ian, Rhonda, Phil, George and Isabelle are walking the 8 miles and hoping to raise funds for the Hospice (unfortunately Mum, Bev and family were unable to make this date but are obviously fully behind us too). It is instrumental in bringing in vital funds that are needed to help patients both in the Hospice and in their own homes.  Your donation could help to pay for specialist nurses or the Dementia Team. It could help to run their Making Memories programme, which provides patients with enjoyable activities, while their carers meet separately, and receive advice support to help them cope or it could run their Bereavement drop-in, or many other vital services which are provided by Heart of Kent Hospice. If you'd like to join us, you can register via their website at hokh.org/support-us/events/.  Many thanks for your support in memory of our wonderful Dad/Grandad/husband and for the human angels that work for HoKH.
