London Marathon 2023 · 23 April 2023 ·

The London Marathon needs no introduction. As the most iconic marathon in the world, we want our team of Roy's Runners to hit the streets of London and raise both awareness and money so the UK's Lung Cancer Patients can expect better

Story

Fundraising for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

“My diagnosis was a terrible shock and incredibly frightening, the prospect that I may die, hearing the words “treatable, but not curable” was one of the most terrifying sentences I have ever heard. It all felt so surreal.

It took months to get over the shock. The most amazing thing is the support around me, my family, my friends and the lung team. ‘Treatable, not curable’ became ‘do-able.’

The fact is, if you have lungs you can get lung cancer. My cancer was probably caused by pollution or other factors out of my control, however there is still a stigma attached and wonderful charities such as Roy Castle are helping to raise awareness and develop new treatments that could make this curable in the future. So, if you can, dig deep and donate!”

Hi I’m Karen. I’m running the marathon for the first time this year, ahead of a rather large milestone birthday! What's keeping me going? Remembering that training and prep for a marathon is nothing like the emotional and physical efforts of battling cancer.

My dear friend, Kayte Batchelor, has Non Small Cell Adenocarcinoma stage 4 Cancer. I’m running for Kayte and the many others going through something similar.

Thank you to Kayte for sharing her story. I hope you see the value and kindness in clicking donate at the bottom of this page.
