Story
In January 2023 our lives were turned upside down, when we lost Mum to a short but brutal battle with CNS Lymphoma (Brain Cancer).
I remember calling her in early November for one of our usual several-times-a-week chats, and something wasn't quite right - she was just saying slightly strange things. She rapidly lost her mental faculties - in many ways, we lost her then. It was heartbreaking and terrifying.
Fast forward to just over 2 months later, & in utter disbelief & devastating shock, we were watching her slip away after an infection took her out in less than 24 hours - just after she'd finished her 1st round of chemo.
I still can't believe it - I'm not sure I ever will.
My Mum was everything to me - mother, best friend, rock, cheerleader, teacher. Close just doesn't do justice to the relationship we had. She was such a huge part of becoming a parent myself - by my side through every step. It is just criminal that she had so little time as Madi & Finley’s Gramma - she cherished every second, and I just loved sharing it with her.
She deeply touched everyone she met - she had the most incredible positive energy & way of making anyone she was engaging with feel like the most important person in the world. She was also ferociously brave & resilient - she's had her fair share of struggles in life, but you would never know it. I always really admired that about her.
It is because of this courage that I have decided to take on this challenge - which, having never been an avid runner, is a HUGE undertaking for me.
I am inspired by her to be brave & push myself way out of my comfort zone - and in doing so, I hope to raise as much money as possible for Lymphoma Action, to support their work against this devastating disease.
I am eternally grateful to all who chose to support me in this challenge, in memory of the irreplaceable, magical person who was my Mum, Sandie.
This is for you Mamma Lion xxx
