Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising funds for Disability Rights UK and Action on Disability. My experiences as a disabled child and young person led me to work first for AoD and then DRUK. I languished for years in a 'special school' before my Dad convinced the education department that I needed the challenge of a proper education. I was suddenly sent to a huge mainstream high school where I got my education but couldn't do sport and had to do geography in reception because of poor access. I survived being the only disabled boy in the school (and the bullying that went with it) and eventually thrived, getting A levels and making friends. When I tried to get a job I got a good response to my cv until employers realised I was a wheelchair user. So, I took up the challenge of working for a better future for other disabled people.
I want to make sure young disabled people's voices are heard and their rights respected. As a young wheelchair user I remember having decisions taken for me, being wheeled places I didn't want to go and having my choices restricted because so few places were accessible. I want a better future (and a better present) for today's young disabled people. Your donations to DRUK and AoD will support this work and also help fight for the rights of all disabled people.
I will be hand cycling around the Olympic Park on Sunday 3rd September. Please make my blisters worthwhile and sponsor me!
