Story
The people who know me, will know that I was never much a of a cardio freak and that not long ago I couldn't run 100 meters... never mind 10000 or 21097. As a personal achievement I have completed my first 10km race, and am now striving for half marathon.
I regret not supporting a charity for my first official race, but to hit the next landmark I will be giving my support to KRUK in hope to help such an underrated cause. Kidney diseases and problems carry some personal feelings, with a close member of the family having issues when young. Thankfully they have pulled through and become a healthy individual, but not everybody is so lucky.
Alongside personal reasoning, as a PhD researcher I have seen the funding capabilities (or lack of) that kidney research can cover. The organ is largely underrated, and diseases can lead to debilitating effects and death. Kidneys are responsible for filtering your blood, maintaining fluid balance, and even regulating blood pressure (possibly underlying the development of some heart diseases). With shocking numbers of associated deaths, people under treatment, and people awaiting treatment, KRUK is a worthwhile cause.
