Story
My name is Kai and I was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour, a Pineal Germinoma, when I was 11. The diagnosis changed my life. I went through chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The treatment caused fatigue and hair loss. I wouldn’t socialise and my biggest fear was the possibility of the cancer returning. I felt incredibly isolated and alone. Until I found Teens Unite.
The charity, co-founded by Karen Millen OBE, supports young people fighting cancer to live their best life, while others search for a cure. With 2,555 new cases of teenage cancer diagnosed each year in the UK, Teens Unite brings young people together through activities so they don’t have to face their battle alone.
Teens Unite has supported me enormously. They turn negative thoughts into a positive and meeting other young people who have experienced cancer reminds me that I’m not on my own. We share the same thoughts, hopes and fears.
It was the support of Teens Unite, which encouraged me to try and fulfil my dream of going to medical school.
I’ll always thank Teens Unite for what they’ve done for me.
When I graduate from medical school, I’ll do all I can to give back to them and other young people facing cancer. If you can help me help them, please give what you can so other young people going through cancer can be supported to live life beyond their diagnosis.
