Story
I am doing the Kiltwalk this year, 23 miles in aid of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, what I have written is an insight at how amazing the staff were and how much Elizabeth was loved and cared for. No matter how small, all donations will go towards a new building, helping families to be given the support and much needed strength at a time when they need it most and, being close to their loved ones.
Here is a little bit about Elizabeth's story......
After fighting cancer for the first time 8 years ago. In November 2015 at a hospital appointment Elizabeth, along with myself and our brother Gerald was given the news from the cancer specialist that her cancer was terminal and was given months to live.
She took a deep breath and said “ok looks like I’m going to be doing a lot of partying”. Her fight began on that day and in the months that followed Elizabeth proved what a fighter she was, she fought so bravely and with great dignity, and with that in mind that’s why our dad had always called her our “wee tiger”, she never complained about her treatment or her pain. Dad would have been so proud to think that his “wee tiger” had turned into a lion.
Elizabeth’s final weeks was spent in the care of The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and here she was cared for and understood so well by all of the staff.
They quickly became aware of Elizabeth’s love of food and were very accommodating with her regular takeaways of Chinese, Indian and chippys.
This enabled Elizabeth to have a few party nights with myself and her friends, we were always welcomed with a big smile and Elizabeth rubbing her hands together saying “what took you so long I’m starving” her trademark saying once the food was put in front of her was “we’re cooking with gas”
Elizabeth was very happy during her time at the hospice and became very fond of the staff that cared for her, our family got to spend some memorable moments with her there and her fighting spirit was a huge inspiration to us all.
To all the Angels in the \prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, giving strength, hope and comfort when we needed it most, eternally grateful for making Elizabeth's final days peaceful in a loving and caring environment, god bless you all for the wonderful work you do
