Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After summiting Kilimanjaro in 2017, I have decided to challenge myself again and trek to Machu Picchu in Peru!
On 26th July 2019, I will once again trade my heels in for walking boots and begin my travels to Peru.
After arriving in Cusco (3399m altitude) and exploring this historic town, we will start by visiting the Sacred Valley (2900m altitude) to gain some insight into the Inca history and culture. We commence the Salkantay Trek (3800m altitude) on day three once we have had a chance to acclimatise and this includes a hike towards the Hamantay Blue Lagoon and on to the Salkantay Pass. The next four days of trekking will take us through diverse scenery and we will be staying over in campsites and hobbit inspired cabins. The trail will eventually lead us to watch the sunrise over the lost city of Machu Picchu.
The weather in July can vary massively from -2°C on the coldest mornings to 26°C on the warmest afternoons! Machu Picchu is part of the Amazon Jungle, so a torrential downpour is always a possibility. We will have to prepare for every eventuality if we want to make it to the end of the trail. Fingers crossed it won't be too cold or wet!
Whilst this is another personal challenge, I would like to use the opportunity to raise funds for the JSPCA Animals' Shelter (https://jspca.org.je/), the Fairway Group charity for 2019. Any donations would be gratefully received. Thank you so much in advance for your moral and financial support.
