Great Birmingham Half Marathon 2018 · 14 October 2018 ·
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
It’s always difficult to write something about why we chose to challenge ourselves, so here goes.......
Sadly my dad died on 13 December 2016 following a horrendous 12 weeks at Russell’s Hall Hospital. After 9 weeks he was diagnosed with Dementia with Lewy Bodies, which incurable. We watched our precious dad disappear before our eyes, slowly but surely. It was the most traumatic experience we have been through. My mom visited every single day and night....looking back I don’t know how she did it, but we pulled together and got through it together. Our family support was amazing and we cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us.
My sister and I, along with our family looked after mom and were there with her constantly as we watched dad get worse and worse. The care at RHH, in particular the Forget Me Not Ward, was phenomenal and we cannot thank them all enough for looking after dad with care, sensitivity and importantly, kindness.
Life is very short and I wanted to do something, not only to challenge myself but also to support this wonderful charity.
My inspirations for signing up for this challenge are my lovely friend Wendy Bailey who is a fitness machine and constantly challenges herself time after time; and also Jennie Fletcher who I haven’t known for long, but she has just completed the London Marathon and proved to me that “I CAN do it”, so...... I am going to do this, after all....it’s just running!!
So, in memory of my precious Dad, please give what you can, if you can. I won’t let you down.
Thank you 😘 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
