Story

THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE

2ND / 3RD / 4TH AUGUST 2010

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 2nd/3rd/4th August 2010 I will be taking on The Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for St Helena Hospice in memory of my mum. The challenge involves climbing the highest peaks of Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon).

In October 2008 I lost my mum from a brain tumour. After she had been diagnosed a year earlier she had indicated that if  possible she would like to be cared for at home. This didn't mean that we wouldn't have any contact with St Helena Hospice, far from it. Mum attended the Day Centre and knew that the support would be there if needed.

As the illness became a lot worse Mum stayed in the Hospice for two weeks which allowed her to receive fantastic care from all the amazing staff. One of the first of many things that my dad, brother and myself noticed was how all the nurses always knew our names and were always so friendly, a real home from home. After this initial stay she was happy to return, which she did a few weeks later.

My mum said that she looked on the nurses as family friends.

My mum's last few weeks were spent at home. During this time the "Hospice at Home Team" were always able to offer support.

Since my mum died there have been some very difficult times for us but even now we know St Helena Hospice can give us the support if needed.

St Helena Hospice is much more than just a building. It provides ongoing care and support not only for people with a life limiting illness but also there famililes and goes beyond the walls reaching right across north east Essex.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep. However, any amount you feel you can donate will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
