Story
I recently found a draft e-mail that Emma wrote in February last year. She was due to send it to her friend and employer Jessie at The Poundbury Florist for information to put on their company website. Her responses are written as follows:
My favourite flower – French Anemone - I love the striking simplicity of the flower
My most perfect afternoon - Spending time walking along the coast with my husband Toby and my cheeky dog Meg.
If you knew Emma, I'm sure you will recognise her personality in her answers. I feel privilaged to have been her husband and am honered to have been thought as being a perfect afternoon partner even if I have to share this accolade with Meg!
And so this is what we're are going to do - spend time walking along the Dorset coast in memory of my fabulous wife Emma.
She was just 32 when she was diagnosed with an aggressive type of breast cancer. Despite having a mastectomy operation, intensive cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the cancer cells were found to have spread to many other parts of her body and in 2009 Emma was told that her condition was terminal. Emma bravely fought until her condition worsened and she went to the Weldmar Hospice in Dorchester where she received exceptional care during her last five days. She died peacefully on 28th May 2012.
She was a dignified, classy and elegant lady who showed many the real meaning of survivorship and the art of living with an uncertain future.
Inspired by her love of the Dorset coastline and her selfless attitude, myself and many of Emma's friends and family are walking the length of the Dorset stretch of the Jurassic Coast which is around 70 miles which we are going to complete in six days.
