Story
I am raising for MQ Mental Health Research, as mental health has hugely affected 3 generations of my family. My grandmother was in a generation where her depression was clumsily treated with electro shock therapy. My mother went mainly untreated and had issues throughout her life including 2 attempted suicides when I was a teenager. Finally my wife, who is a US Army veteran from the Gulf War, has needed mental health support for her PTSD. Only in my wife’s case has the support been good, so treatment for mental health is improving, however there is a long way to go.
This DeutscheBike ride is a huge challenge for me. Cycling is usually inhabited by fit, young, lightweight people and I was 111kg when I chose to do this, and will be 53 years old. This ride is over 4 days with 454km to cover and 9,535m to climb. I have been in training and dropped to 102kg, and hope to drop more before the event.
The Deutsche Bank and MQ Mental Health partnership is actively investing in the long-term future of mental health to help understand mental health illness and ensure it is effectively treated and
one day prevented. Your support will enable investment in mental health research projects across the globe.
MQ Mental Health Research are a charity working on mental health as they believe better is possible, and I am proud to support them in their research.
