Jumpstart my Service Year 2023 · 1 June 2023 to 1 June 2024 ·
Jumpstart the Juneau JVs! These volunteers have dedicated a year of their lives to serve with JVC Northwest. As such, they have committed to living the values of Community, Simple Living, Social & Ecological Justice, and Spirituality/Reflection. Your gift goes into a communal pool which helps support their formation and keep fees low for the nonprofits they serve. Help them reach their goal of receiving at least 15 donations of any amount to their page!
Meet the Juneau JVs:
Catherine (she/her) is from Rochester, MN and will be serving as Youth Healthy Living Specialist with the Zach Gordon Youth Center.
"I serve because of the meaningful relationships I get to make with people at varying stages of life. The knowledge and wisdom I gain from simple conversations and acts of service are something I will never take for granted because they offer me such a rewarding experience. I serve because, amidst a world that is facing an immense amount of injustice, I get the opportunity to make a difference no matter how big or small."
Becks (she/her) is from Waukesha, WI and will be serving as an ORCA Coordinator with Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL).
"I serve because acts of service are acts of love, as well a natural expression of our common humanity. We are all on the same road, and road trips are always better when compassion abounds, and we help one another."
Jessica (she/her) is from Waukesha, WI and will be serving as Student Support with Yaakoosge Daakahidi High School.
"I serve because I feel called toward mission work. I find joy in helping others, and when I questioned the many paths I could take after college, I knew I was completely passionate about serving."
Maggie (she/her) is from Ada, MI and will be serving as an Outreach and Housing Specialist with Zach Gordon Youth Center.
"I serve because I believe it is crucially important to develop relationships with those on the margins and those who share an interest in working for social justice. Many of the everyday decisions we make impact those seemingly distant from us, and the relationships I develop during my service year will help me to remember and act on the perspectives of those often excluded from the decision-making table."
Mark (he/him) is from Highlands Ranch, CO and will be serving as a Preparedness Specialist - Juneau with the American Red Cross of Alaska.
"I serve because I felt called to help the people around me. I learned a lot of things thus far, and I want to put them to good use making the world a better place."
